Photo: Björn Reißmann	Jörg Waschinski was born in 1966 in Berlin. He studied church music in his home town and took private singing lessons. In 1993 he switched his subject from tenor to soprano and began to study at the Music School "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin with Renate Faltin. In 1996 he won a second prize at the Johann Heinrich Schmelzer competition in Melk/Austria, in 1999 has was awarded the price for the best young singer by the renowned German opera magazine, Opernwelt. He sings mainly Baroque operas and oratorios, but also music of the 20th century (e.g. Weill). His range is at least: g - d''' (G3 - D6).
